Summary of Genre Research [DRAFT]

-A lot of films start with an act of violence, a technique introduced by Hitchcock, which instantly engages the audiences attention.

-Most introduce just one antagonist or protagonist rather than many, as this allows plot to develop easily as the film progresses.

- The use of a voiceovers adds exposition to many. The mind is key to psychological thrillers.

- Motifs are shown to portray artistic styles of auteurs.

- Heavy use of mise-en-scene again adds exposition. There is purpose for everything we see. Hitchcock said vision was more important than narrative, as films are visual devices.

- Many films start with the  ending or a strange timeshift.
